How Double U Hunting Supply Hit Their Target

In 1999, in Yacolt, Washington, a hunting-mad family started a small graphic design company to sell deer and elk decals at local sportsman shows. When owner Buddy Woodberry became passionate about hunting with hounds, the family business naturally followed suit. Today, Double U Hunting Supply offers a large variety of hunting and hound supplies to customers across the United States, and beyond. “We are hunters first and we know what’s at stake when you’re out in the woods with your dogs,” said Woodberry. “We want everyone to be as prepared as possible when going hunting.”

The company also needed to prepare their eCommerce operation for future growth. Their webstore, dusupply.com, was running successfully on Magento 1, selling GPS tracking systems, e-collars, clothing, supplies, and hunting DVDs. But the store had a number of issues, including unfinished front-end parts. In October 2018, they asked Atwix to help them migrate to Magento 2, to improve performance and user experience.

Atwix specializes in upgrading small and large companies to Magento Commerce 2, and we knew exactly what to do. We optimized their performance for the new platform by optimizing images, configuring Varnish, Redis, and enabled minification to deliver a lightning-fast site performance. We improved their SEO, too, to bring even more hunting aficionados to the store.

After just four months of development we released the website on Magento 2 in February of 2019, with a brand new site design. We are continuing to assist Double U Hunting Supply with ongoing support by keeping their Magento version up to date. We also hold weekly calls to keep the client informed about work in progress, and to discuss all new ideas and improvements. The hunting company was thrilled with their results. By configuring Redis and optimizing their images, their TTFB (Time To First Byte) on the homepage is just 2.1 milliseconds.
